WOODLEIGH WOOD is a local family business, which has grown to be one of the most respected firewood suppliers in the South Hams.

"OUR STORY"

In 1966 the Farmer's health declined due to the effects of corn dust, having working for many years growing and harvesting cereal crops and hay.  He was advised to move to a warmer climate and he followed the medical advice and emigrated with his family to Australia. The Farm was put on the market and our descendants bought it in 1967 and the same 3rd generation family are still here.

The original business was established in 1978 and continued as a mixed Farm prodominantly cattle and sheep with some timber production.

Ideally located in the beautiful Devon countryside near Woodleigh on the families small Country Farm.

Over the years the demand for quality firewood has grown, driven by rising fossil fuel prices, which led us to diversify into Forestry and form the additional business - Woodleigh Wood. Farming and Forestry compliment each other very well in such a rural location.

All the timber we process into logs is grown in South Devon, all from local sustainable FSC  managed forests. We use the thinnings,  where selected trees are removed for the benefit of other retained trees grown on for sawlogs..

We process all the timber on the property, which is central to our delivery areas and our customers.

Large diameter timber is sold as sawlogs and goes straight to local sawmills and the timber which is not suitable for any other purpose is used for Firewood.

Shortly after the forestry timber is felled, it is processed almost immediately using modern efficient machinery. Once in log form, the timber starts the process of air drying, turning unseasoned wood into a quality fuelwood with a low moisture content ready to burn.  

One of the main benefits of burning woodfuel as a source of energy to heat your home is that supply is 100% sustainable, as we can grow trees indefinately.

In the last 11 years we have planted in excess of 12,000 trees on our own land, the majority of which are native species.
